And he is CONVINCED that “Roman slaves had it worse because they were considered more expendable.” Which is blatantly untrue on its face; there was at least the possibility for slaves to be freed and their children to gain full citizenship in Rome, but more importantly they weren’t outright enslaved and robbed of human status based solely on the color of their skin. This all, of course, sails cleanly over his head, which I then typically feel like punching. Nowhere that I am aware of in history other than the Western slave trade has race been the sole determinant of whether or not it was conscionable to enslave a person.
